THE MAKING OF SAVE ME FROM MYSELF

Two years in the making, Save Me From Myself was a struggle to make. If it wasn't a broken septic it was a roof repair making me delay recording sessions. I finally had just determine that finishing this CD was my priority! ET VOILA!

The song Save Me From Myself was written two years ago with my friend and co-writer Rand Bishop. I had just dealt with a very dramatic situation with a close friend who wrestles with addiction in a way I had never seen before. Sad, tragic, frightening. I was able to unburden my shaken heart in this song. Rand's insightful and perfect guitar riff made melody come easy. He wrestled some demons away in the creation of the lyrics, too!

The sessions, recorded at Peaceful Waters Music, were fabulous. Working with talented musicians is always magical. Hearing my songs come to life from their creative input NEVER GROWS OLD.

When it was time to shoot the CD cover photos, Tim and I drove way out to New Jersey where Jim Barg (the photographer/designer) lives. What a beautiful area! The weather really cooperated. It was moody and evocative but not too cold. I love the location Jim chose. It was perfect. Can't thank him enough for his creative input.

I owe this CD to the kindness of all who helped me with this. I can't thank you enough.

KATI MAC'S SONG "ONLY LOVE"
(FEATURING D TRAIN WILLIAMS) from her CD Poseidon's Son,
CHOSEN FOR THE THEME FOR CBS DAYTIME'S GUIDING LIGHT!

February 29th, 2008, leap year. Expect the unexpected.

CBS Daytime's Guiding Light is making big changes. There’s nothing like it on TV right now, and I am honored to be a part of it. Recently, at the preview for the new-concept show (which began airing February 29th, 2008), I was blown away by the cutting edge of the writing, the innovative filming, and brilliant depth of the cast’s performance.

I was in the right place at the right time for once ;) I am thankful and grateful to Gary Deinstadt ad Robyn Cutler for being so supportive of my work and to Ellen Wheeler (and her kids) for liking my song! Click here to watch one of the new intros (there are five variations on the video, one is shown here).

If you'd like an "Only Love" ringtone for your cell phone, you can get it for 99 cents by clicking the Buy Now button.

SPECIAL RELEASE: My Angel, a new song, recently played on Guiding Light. Buy it here.

NOTES ON MAKING “POSEIDON’S SON”

After recuperating from going to school, I finished the CD(!!!) with Peter Denenberg of Acme Recording Studios in Mamaroneck, NY. What a great place to work. I recorded my first CD, 18 Forever with Peter, so it felt like coming home. He is so great to work with. Very silly, too.

Poseidon's Son is now available, and you can hear some of it by clicking here.

The Horns With Mike Crehore of Dubway Studio and Kati, 5/2003
Left to right: Tim Ouimette, Mike Crehore, Jack Bashkow, Dale Kleps, and Kati

  • Horns on Freaky Deaky and IsYaWitMe: (Dubway Studios, 135 W 26th, 2nd fl, 212 352-3070) Engineer: Mike Crehore. What would I do without you? KOD! Tim Ouimette on trumpet and chart correction, Dale Kelps on tenor sax, Jack Bashkow on baritone sax. Fast and Fun. The way I like horn players!

What a fun bunch of guys!! And talented! If you like that kind of thing. These guys played on Freaky Deaky and IsYaWitMe. (They were SO good, I even fell in love with one of them!)
  • Of the Center: I wrote this with a student from school, John Jetter, for my Writ/Prod class with Joel Thome. Joel is a great musician and his class was inspiring.

This was a cool session. The cats liked the whacky 7/8 to 4/4 time change. I love the Beatle vibe. Wayne P always comes up with bass arrangements that blow my mind and really make the track come alive. Every time I work with him, I quietly wonder, will he do that magic thing again to my song? And yes, he does. He does it EVERY time.

Left to right: Wayne Pedzwater (bass), Kati, Julio (guitar), Joel Rosenblatt (drums), Roger Squitero (percussion)

  • IsYaWitMe session: WOW, I can't believe it, the CD is almost done. What a year! One last session with Jeff Golub, Will Lee, Joel Rosenblatt and Chris Palmero. I better sing good! It's called IsYaWitMe. Doing it at Hip Pocket Recording Studios, 37 W 20th St., 212 633-1175, with Tristan. I can't wait!

We got 5 great takes; Poseidon's Son, Freaky Deaky, I Keep Dreamin', Like I Could, He Loves Me He Loves Me Not.

  • Overdubs: Feb 2003 (at Crushing, 19 Union Square W, 8th fl, NYC 212 352-8833) OR< How wrong can a session go and still come out sounding good? The ever patient Jim Gately as engineer and psychiatrist, Kati Mac as the stressed out "where are all the tracks"? Oh My God, they're ERASED! artist, Gary "are you gonna yell at me" Schreiner on piano and synth, Kevin "I wanna go home" Hupp on tamborine, And Paul Pimsler on guitar. WHEW. Chris Arbisi on to the rescue!! Thanks everyone!

Paul, Jim, and Gary (still working)

  • Overdubs: March 2003 (Crushing) Just before a long drive, Martha Colby on cello. Waiting, Waiting, always waiting! Sounded great as always. The room at Crushing sounds so beautiful for cello and piano. Thanks Gary and Joey for everything. The microwave popcorn is fab, 2.

  • May 2003 (Valhalla, 212 563-7121) VOCALS VOCALS< BGV with Amanda Homi, Thanks Amanda! MIXING MIXING MIXING "OH MY GOD WHY DOES THIS TAKE SOOOOOO LONG?" "Why can't it take 20 minutes JIM, WHY????" Thank you Jim for your patience, great ideas and talent. (the boy can play guitar, keys, sing and engineer!) Without Jim Gately, this CD would not have been made. I owe him a lot. (He'll make me pay, don't worry!)

  • Only Love and At The Edge Of The Pond: (North Forty Recording, 30 W 21st, NYC 212 243-4040) Eng. Pete Romano (he's cute, he's fast and he's a good engineer! ;) Cutting guitar is so scary for me. Paul Pimsler on guitar and Martha Colby on cello. All done in about 4 hours. I wanted a live feel for these songs.

  • I Heard You Twice The First Time: (Thunderdog Studios 917 738-4340) I have wanted to write with Steve for a long time and was thrilled when he said he would help me finish this song. Anyone who has heard The Contes, knows what an incredably talented pair Jon and Steve Conte are. Monster writers, musicians and singers why they aren't MEGA STARS is shameful! Go to http://www.thecontes.com. We had fun, (if you like fun). Kevin Hupp made alot of noise, and we like that about him. Jim Gately was there controlling all the sounds.

    A Kati/Conte oreo!

  • B3: (Hip Pocket, 37 W 20 St) Engineer, Tristan makes it all easy. Thanks to evryone at Russo Grantham for all your support through the years! One of my fav studios to work in. They have everything you need and are great to work with. What can you say about Chris Palmero???? That hasn't already been said a million times! What an original! He's amazingly talented AND he helped me design my Haloween costume! His moonwalking is legendary, too.

  • Nothing Is The Way I Planned It: Working with the FABULOUS Wayne Warnecke at Peaceful Waters Music. What a FUN session! Joel Rosenblatt on drums, Kip Sophos on bass, Gil Parris on guitar, Me on acc guitar, the whacky Joe Bonadio on percussion (no pun intended) and his dog Skip. The songwriter forgot to record the 3rd verse, but, luckily, genius pro tools engineer, Wayne Warnecke, saved the day. "Come on in, that sucked!" ;) Sometimes, I scare myself!
